Nicole picked the perfect time of year to come out with a football theme kit. Though I'm not a huge fan of the sport myself, I love the kit! The colors are bold and really versitle. You'll definitely find use for this kit beyond football-related photos.

I'm not so sure I like the photo treatment on the "Gotcha" layout. I'm just learning how to use some of the features in PSP, and I don't always get the best results. I'm working on it though. I've definitely mastered red eye removal this last week. :)

I'm feeling totally out of the loop in the digi scrap world lately. Since going back to work, I haven't spent as much time browsing the galleries, joining challenges, and most of all...scrapping! I'm kind of in a scrapper's block, if there is such a thing. I have a few cute pictures of the kids to scrap from Trick or Treating yesterday, but I just can't get inspired.

So...First of all, here's a new FABULOUS Halloween kit from Miss Erin. I should have announced this on my blog a couple days ago, but I was having a heck of a time getting into blogger.

Okay, so I'm way late introducing this kit, but at the time it was released, I had trouble downloading the kit so I only got my hands on it a day or two ago.

Miss Erin has done a super duper fantastic job. I can't even express how lovely this kit is. The elements are whimsical, the pastel papers are dreamy, and you're going to be so inspired using this kit...I was!

I was so inspired using this kit. The past few weeks have been ridiculously busy for me because I'm back to work part time. I thought I was adjusting, but it's really tough fitting everything in, especially ME time after working for 6 hours or so. Things should slow down by the end of next month, but for now I'm in a whirlwind!

So here's my first layout with the kit. I scrapped some old photos of Melody that I thought were perfect with the colors.

And layout #2. Sleepy baby boy. I couldn't resist an extraction photo with this kit. It's perfect!

Miss Erin has a fabulous new kit in her Daydreamer Design Works store. Now, there are a lot of autumn-theme kits out there right now. What makes this one special, you ask? First, I LOVE the color palette. The oranges, reds, and browns go perfectly with the little spikes of teal and green. Amazing. Besides that, the elements are really unique. You're certainly going to find apples and pumpkins in other kits, but there are so many other elements with fantastic textures like felt. There are lots of papers, some of them shabby. STS-Use It or Lose It Challenge

Every month, Stuff to Scrap has a mini kit challenge called "Use It or Lose It." You get the mini for free, but in order to get the points for the challenge, you need to use every single part of the mini in your layout.

I love this challenge and participate most months. I almost missed this one because I've been so busy these past couple weeks.

Here's my layout. It's a fabulous mini to work with, and I think my layout turned out pretty darn good!

The journaling says, "This picture of Melody was taken in Virginia City in November 2008. It was chilly outside, but we had a great time browsing the shops. I should have added that the in-laws (from Wisconsin) were with us, but I'll just let the memories speak for themselves in my head. LOL

I've been scrapping like mad on and off for the last 24 hours. I'm all caught up on my CT duties now. Unfortunately, I'm also a bit ahead and I have several AWESOME pages that I can't post yet because the kits haven't been released.

What I CAN tell you is that the designers all have some pretty amazing kits coming out and I'm going to have a freebie QP for you within the next couple days!

Tonight I have a layout to show you which I created for the Stuff to Scrap Scraplift Challenge. I'm pretty excited on how it turned out. The kit I used is called "A New Day" by Color with Caryn. You can buy it at Enchanted Studio Scraps.

I plan to do some more scrapping tonight so you might just get to see another layout or two before tomorrow :)

Let Me Count the Ways-New Kit by DDBN-Layouts

Digi-Designs by Nicole has an adorable new kit coming to her store at Stuff To Scrap. What I noticed right away with this kit are the colors. It's quite a unique combo of brights and pastels. I love the versitility of this kit--very easy to use for both masculine and girly layouts.

I've done two layouts with this kit so far. The first I call "Lowercase e". Each day, my daughter focuses on a different letter of the alphabet in Kindergarten. As she does her homework, she learns words that begin with that letter as well as how to compose the letter herself. Lowercase e was a tough one, but after several tries, she could do it perfectly. She was so proud (as am I)!

This next one, I named "Sweet Melody." My girl can be a real sweetie pie when she wants to be.

So you see what I mean about this kit's possiblities? Totally different layouts, and the colors are fantastic!

Digi-Designs by Nicole- New Templates!

Digi-Designs by Nicole has a set of new templates in her Stuff to Scrap store called Template Temptation Volume 3. The set includes 6 templates in png, tiff, and psd format.

As a CT member, she asked that I make two layouts with her templates, and I have to admit, I had a really hard time choosing which templates to use! I used to be kind of intimidated by templates. I love to scraplift layouts, but using templates seemed tedious to me. I use Paint Shop Pro, and it's not as "drag and drop" with psd files as Photoshop is. However, I really liked using Nicole's templates, and I'm certain to use them whenever I'm having a little layout-design block!

I chose to use templates 15 and 18. I wanted my two layouts to be completely different from one another, and it was so easy to get good results with these templates. I was "forced" more or less to stick with the general pattern of the layout, yet I could also add or take away from the template as I saw fit. I say "forced" in a good way. This kept me from straying too much towards my comfort zone. LOL

Really, if you're like me and are more likely to scraplift than to use a template, you have to try these out, especially if you're kind of new to digi-scrapping or if you're having trouble coming up with fresh ideas for your layouts.

My first layout I used a freebie kit I got from Digital Crea called Monia.

It's Your Day Layout, STS Template Challenge

This month, Lori from Scraps N' Pieces has provided an awesome template for the template challenge at Stuff to Scrap. If you haven't participated in any of STS's challenges yet, you need to head over there. Their forum is so much fun!

Here's my layout. I used "It's Your Day" by Miss Erin's Scraps. I didn't really think the kit fit the pictures at first. I was really insistant on scrapping these pictures with this template, but wasn't sure on what kit to use. I was lazy about searching through my files for a kit that went well with Melody's pink room.

Then I got the idea that I could just color the pictures or turn them black and white to fit the mood of the page better. I love how it turned out! If you could have seen Melody's nice clean room that morning, you would understand that the serene bluish hue is perfect for this layout.

The template is free if you participate in the challenge so what are you waiting for? Get over to STS now!

Oh, and by the way, It's Your Day is an awesome kit. Just look at those cute little birdie elements. I really love the confetti and glitter splotches too. Here's a layout I made with the kit. I'll tell you, the colors of this kit WOW me. Never have I seen pastel browns, blues, oranges, and greens look so marvelous together! So many kits with pastel colors are hard to work with for "masculine" layouts, but not this one. I love it. It's definitely a kit I'll go to when I'm yearning for gentle hues and summery elements.

Okay, I was going to blog about some challenges that I'll be participating in this weekend, but I just couldn't wait to tell you about Kat's new kit, Country Living. Kat has really outdone herself on this one. The papers are fantastic. I love the unique patterns. They really have a country feel to them. And the elements are gorgeous! You'll find gems, a shadowbox, rocking chair, several awesome frames, flowers, buttons, strings, and even a cute little teddy bear!

Okay, I'm not kidding when I tell you that I have lots to blog about today. In this post I'm going to tell you all about Miss Erin's new kit, Honor Roll. Yeah yeah, I posted about it a couple days ago, but have you gone over to GingerScraps to pick it up yet? I hope so because it's totally on sale until the 13th. That's tomorrow so head over there now!

Here's a preview of the kit.

You have to admit that the color scheme is really unique. If you're intimidated by the contrast of red, white, black, and gold, don't be. I admit it's not a color palette that frequents my layouts, but heck, that's what I love about it. You're going to create truly unique layouts with this kit. Here's another one of my layouts for some inspiration.

I'm usually big on white space with square layouts, but I stepped outside my comfort zone to fill the page. I was really proud when my daughter, who will turn five on September 21, received a certificate in Kindergarten that she could successfully tie shoes. Now some of you probably say, "My kid has been doing that for a long time, and he/she's the same age." Well, the reason I'm so impressed is because Melody has never had a pair of shoes with laces. I know, I know, it's no miracle, and I certainly don't consider her a genius for tying shoes, but as a proud parent, I just can't help to boast.

I hope you're all having a great weekend. I'm hoping for a relaxing couple of days that offers me lots of time to digi-scrap. My next post will tell you why...wink wink.

Whew! I've got tons of news to share today. First and foremost, I'm now part of another Creative Team. Digi-Designs by Nicole has accepted me as a new team member so you can expect to see lots of layouts with her kits in the near future. I have a couple done already with her newest kit, but I will wait until the release date to post them. Expect those layouts next week. I'm really excited to be on another team. Nicole sells her kits at Stuff to Scrap, which is one of my favorite stores and forums. If you haven't been to their site yet, you have to check it out. Yesterday I finally decided on making a 12x12 QP freebie. I'm still thinking of doing some BB pages so as long as I'm not busy with making layouts or other CT duties this weekend, I'll probably have another freebie for you on Monday.

Today I have a job interview. We're going to do it over the phone. Since the job I'm applying for is actually my old job, I'm pretty sure we're just going through the formalities for HR. If it were up to Kim, who will be my boss, I think she'd just like to get me in there to start working!

So have a great day everyone. I'm going to do some housework and maybe a small amount of reading before I go to pick Melody up from school. I swear, it's her fourth day of school, and each day it seems like the time goes by quicker. She's doing great in school so far. I'm hoping the teacher will give us some kind of weekly report so that I can know her perspective on how Melody's doing.

Carried Away--Autumn Harvest Layout

Are you ready for Fall yet? Though I totally love Summer, I'm excited for a new season to begin. There's a lot going on for me now, and it's the perfect time for the weather to change.

First, Melody started her first day of Kindergarten yesterday. She looks so adorable in her little schoolgirl uniform. I'll be scrapping pictures of her first day really soon. So far, I think she really likes school. It's only 2 1/2 hours each day, but I'm glad she'll have some structure and guaranteed friend time from now on. It's also nice to have some time with Sidney by myself. He's such a sweet little baby, and I love being able to give him the extra, undivided attention for a couple hours while Melody's away.

Next, I might be going back to work part time. Well, more like per diem, which for those of you who are unfamilair, it is just like part time, but no set schedule or definite hours per week. I'm going on an interview this week. Oh, and this is actually for the same job I left when I had Sidney. They called me back a couple weeks ago and asked me to reapply. I was full time before, but I'm definitely not going back to that. I don't want to put Melody in all-day Kindergarten yet, and I really would prefer to keep Sid out of daycare as much as possible.

As I type this, I'm looking around the room and I realize I have some cleaning to do.
So here's the real reason for my post--LOL

Kat has a new kit in her store at Scrap It Sassy. "Autumn Harvest" is just what you'd expect from a Fall-themed kit. The patterns and colors of the papers are fantastic, and there are many beautiful elements to choose from. I just realized that I forgot to date my layout! The picture is of Melody in October 2008 at the park. I don't remember anything remarkable about that day, but I love the way her shadow is cast on the ground before her in this pic. I softened and muted the colors of the picture to go better with the papers.

I'll be working with Kat's new kit again real soon. In fact, I hope to have a freebie for all of you by the end of the week. I'm having trouble deciding between BB pages or one 12x12 QP. Hmmm...

Pretty in Pink-Kat's Creations-Brag Book Pages-Freebie!

Last week I promised myself that I'd get a couple brag book quick pages created with Kat's "Pretty in Pink." It's really an adorable kit. As I mentioned before, rarely do I only use one color in a layout. I do, almost always, stick with one kit for each layout (I don't mix them very often), but even so, most kits are based on a color palette of several colors. After working with Pretty in Pink, I found I really like using one dominant color. I'm thinking of making a mini kit freebie with just one or two colors.

So, I hope you like the brag book pages I created! I haven't used them yet, but I bet they look fabulous printed out. My printer is acting up, and I'm probably going to need a new one. Until we manage to afford a nice photo printer, I'm stuck with having them printed at Walgreens, which really is pretty cheap, but not convenient as just clicking "print." Know what I mean?

In the Moonlight-Miss Erin's Scraps-New Kit-LO

So....Miss Erin has another new kit in her store at GingerScraps called "In the Moonlight." She based this kit on the Twilight series, but believe me, I'm only a "minor" fan of Twilight, and I don't see myself ever scrapping Edward, Bella, or any of the other characters. However, this kit is magical even so. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the background papers.

In my first layout with the kit, I used a grey-toned, brick-patterned paper as the background and then layered and blended a photo into it. I love the results. I'm going to play with this kit again later today. I'm probably going to work with the darker backgrounds and see what I can come up with.

Look Who Has Glasses--New Layout

After taking Melody for her first eye exam, we found she needs to wear glasses while reading, doing schoolwork, playing on the computer, etc. Just like her mom, she has one eye, her left, that is a little far-sighted. The eye doctor said that she might not need glasses later if her eye corrects itself. This is good news. In the meantime, Melody's new glasses are adorable. The frame design is called "Disney Princess, Magic Mirror." They came with the cutest little purse-like case.

The layout below was created with a kit called "Owl Always Love You" by Stacey's Scraps, available at Scrap That Idea. I also used this layout for a Gingerscraps challenge called "Word Lovers." The challenge for August was to create your own word art. I love making my own word art!

Kat has a really cute new kit, Out of Orbit, in her Scrap It Sassy store. The elements are adorable and so fun to work with. I tried something new with this layout. First of all, and most obviously, I played with the hue, brightness, and contrast in the photo. In most layouts, this would look totally ridiculous, but it appears to totally work with this kit! I like the funky tone to Melody's skin...LOL
Also, I started out using a template by A+ Designs (available at Enchanted Studio Scraps), but I ended up changing several things that I think went better for this kit.

I wish I had more time to blog right now, but I've got to get ready for the day. It's after 9AM, and I haven't done a thing but scrap. Okay, that makes me happy, but I have to venture into the real world now...get dressed, consume something besides coffee, and soak up a little sunshine!

Scrapping Goals of the Day and Week

Today's going to be a busy day for me both in the scrapping world and at home. I have laundry up to my ears and I need to clean the house. I promised myself I'd get our home squeeky clean and smelling less like dogs and more like my Green Cleaner by the end of the day.

As for scrapping. I'll be uploading another freebie today. It's a set of three brag book pages I made with "Back to School" by Kat's Creations. I just love saying that. Well it's time for another Stuff To Scrap Blog Train freebie. This month, the theme is Summer Camp. I had loads of fun making this mini kit. Since I'm new to designing, it's really cool to try out new things in Paint Shop Pro. The elements were all designed by me with the features of PSP. I learned how to make the ric rac with an online tutorial, which I can't find right now to link up. I'll be back with that later. The rest of the papers and elements I just experimented with. I'm really pleased with how everything turned out.

Needing Inspiration or A Break? Tomorrow's Freebie.

Miss Erin has a new kit coming out really soon, and I need to create another layout and possibly a QP for its release. I have one great layout already, but the second one I'm just stumped on. Her new kit is FABULOUS. I think I'm having trouble because I'm attempting to step out of my comfort zone and do a fantasy layout. I want extractions along with framed photos. Yes, I've done this before, but it's not coming easy to me this time. Once you see her kit (which I think she's going to release in a week or two), you're going to think I'm nuts. A kit this beautiful should practically scrap itself.

So, today I'm going to browse galleries for some ideas. I've got some really cute new pictures of Sid to scrap so lack of photos is not the problem. Hmmmm...I think I might check out some old speed scrap or recipe challenges to maybe follow instructions while adding some of my own ideas.

Also, I will probably take most of the weekend off from scrapping. We have plans to go swimming in the Yuba River tomorrow. We're going to pack a lunch, don our suits, and take a dip in the cool water. I haven't told Melody yet. She's going to be so excited! Needless to say, I hope to get tons of pictures. I have so many kits that I want to use, but I need some more inspiration. I think a weekend break might be just the ticket.

Goal 1 Complete!

Woo hoo! I'm so excited! Not only did I finish my first scrapping goal of the day to create brag book pages with Kat's Back To School kit, I LOVE how they turned out! I ended up with three 4x6 pages. They're already packaged up with a preview, but I won't be linking them for download until Monday. I'm so happy!

Goals for the Day

Sometimes I just sit here on the computer browsing galleries for inspiration. Other times I browse stores. And there are moments when I really feel I've been wasting my time just looking at stuff. I know I shouldn't feel this way, but I want to create create create! So today I'm going to set a couple goals. If I don't finish them, I'll just continue tomorrow. The point is to have a focus so I'm not just mindlessly clicking away.

So here it goes. First, I want to complete a few BB pages with Kat's Back to School kit. I plan on giving these away as freebies next week. I've kind of started a trend for myself without realizing it to release a freebie each Monday. This will work out as long as I keep my focus! So, you can expect a set of BB pages next Monday. I'm hoping for at least two, but maybe up to 4 for "Back to School."

My second goal is to create at least two layouts (probably BB 4x6 size) with a new kit I bought on Digital Crea today called "Little Lilou." I want to get a few layouts completed for my wall project.

Oh, get this...duh. I realized that I've been making layouts in 8.5x11 instead of 8x10. I was thinking standard paper size and not photo size. I should be able to alter my first project enough to print it and still make it look good. I'm going to work on that too sometime this week.

The next layout I created for a Scraplift Challenge at GingerScraps. I called the layout Tired Little Man and used a kit called Merci from Fanfan-Rue des Anges.

Both layouts are 4x6 for easy printing. Man, I love those BB pages! :)

I've decided to create 12 layouts to print, frame, and hang on the wall in our living room. Three 8.5x11", three 5x7", and three 4x6". I'm starting with the largest ones first, 8.5x11", which will feature Melody's 1st year and Sidney's 1st year. I haven't yet decided what the third will be, but I'm thinking either a layout comparing Melody and Sidney ages or a family layout. Who know though, I could totally change my mind.

The first layout is complete, Melody's 1st Year. It took me nearly all day to perfect it. I used Helly's mini kit "Alicia." The photos have a brownish color adjustment layer on top of them. I used an opacity of 50. The photos themselves needed to be cleaned up a bit because I don't have them saved at a very high resolution. I removed some of the digital camera noise and adjusted the brightness and contrast. I love how it turned out. The frames I'll be using don't have any border or mat. My goal is to have them all completed by next week when the new Walgreen's opens up by our house so I can take the pictures in on my flash drive and have them printed.

It's A Boy Thing--Another birthday LO

I joined in on a SS at STS this afternoon and made the layout below. You wouldn't believe how many times I moved those paper strips around before I decided that I like them. I'm still not so sure, but the layout is definitely a keeper. I made it in 8.5x11 format so I could easily print it. Man do I wish Walgreen's printed 12x12!

I used Color by Caryn's kit "It's a Boy Thing." Very cute kit! You can get it at ESS.

Back to School LO

Scrap That Idea Wednesday Challenge

This week, Sara's challenge is to scrap a boy layout using girlie elements and papers. I love how my layout turned out. I've been browsing galleries looking for some inspiration, and I noticed a lot of layouts lately with papers on top of the background paper that are slightly skewed. That is, they're off to the side or cropped in a unique way. I'm going to work on making this layout into a template. I guess I'm just really liking it!

Scrapping girlie stuff around my little boy's picture wasn't all that hard. In fact, the kit I used (Summer Melon by Mel Hains) has such gentle muted yellows, pinks, and oranges that the layout appears kind of modern vintage, if that makes any sense. I'm glad I went with black and white photos. I think it makes them stand out more.

Well, I'm off to check out the GingerScraps forum and gallery. Then to Enchanted Studio Scraps and Stuff to Scrap before I get to bed. Myron comes home tomorrow so I'm certain to spend the day getting the house cleaned up. Really it's not all that bad, but I really need to clean the bathrooms...blech....

Land of the Free LO

What's Up Doc?--Little Bruiser LO

Today I decided to scrap an old picture of Melody. I totally remember the day I journaled about. I was at work, and the daycare called, saying "Melody's fine, but we just wanted to let you know she has a black eye starting from a fall off one of the jungle gyms in shake. "Shake" stands for "Shake, Rattle, and Roll," which is the playroom at the daycare. This was at the old center when the room wasn't even half the size of what it is now at the new center. Melody doesn't go there anymore anyway (since Sidney was born and I stay home now). I don't miss working, but I DO miss the daycare. Melody had a great time there with all her old friends.

I used Kat's kit "What's Up Doc?" to scrap her lovely bruise/scrape. After I made this LO, I realized I didn't enhance the photo at all. Duh! But oh well, I can fix that later should I decide to print this one.

You can buy this kit from Kat's Creations at Scrap It Sassy. My favorite parts of this kit are the brightly-colored papers and the band-aid element. It's a really neat little kit, perfect for scrapping moments such as I have mentioned above. We all know our kids have several injuries, hopefully most of them minor, in their youth. This kit would work well with some brag book pages should you want to make a little memory book of their owies!

Beach Bums LO

I completed my first layout as a CT member for Kat's Creations. This kit is a lot of fun, and the colors are bright and beautiful. Perfect for summer pictures, pictures of your kids wearing brightly colored clothes, or even black and white pics that you want to emphasize. It includes elements like a seahorse and lighthouse, both of which I love. I made the layout below into a quick page. I'm not sure if I'll be linking it up to download from my blog or from the CT blog. Maybe both. I'm waiting to see what Kat prefers I do.

So, as part of Kat's CT, I'm expected to make two layouts per kit and one QP. This means I'll be using Beach Bums again real soon! After that, I'm going to work with a kit called "What's Up Doc." It's a very unique kit, which is perfect to scrap all those injuries (hopefully mostly minor) that our children encounter. You'll be hearing more about that kit from me within the next few days.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. We have a birthday party to go to at 10...a COWBOY birthday party. I hope to take lots of fun pics to scrap. Then, we might go to the movies, the water fountain, and/or a small carnival going on this weekend in our neighborhood. So, I won't have any time to scrap until next week. Bummer...but it'll give me some time to think up some layout ideas and take some awesome pictures.

Taking Photos Today

I probably won't have any layouts done today. We're going on a playdate to the water fountain, and I'm certain to take lots of pictures to scrap later. Woo hoo! I have Sidney dressed in bright clothes so that I can use both brightly colored pics and bw or sepia if I choose later. I love when the kids have bright clothes on. It makes scrapping so much fun.

I'm very excited to announce that I'm now on the creative team for Kat's Creations! Kat sells her kits at Scrap It Sassy, which I haven't shopped from before, but there are A LOT of designers there. You have to check it out. After I get everything set up on Kat's CT forum, I'll be able to make some lovely layouts with her kits. I can't wait. Thanks for choosing me Kat!

Before I go, I want to show you a few new layouts. I've been really in the scrapping mood lately, and I think that helps with my creativity. The more I scrap, the more I want to, and the more I do it, the better results I get!

First, this morning I joined in on the speed scrap at STS. Ellay was hosting so I used her (previously) freebie kit, Summer Lovin'. The kit is available at Stuff to Scrap now. It's an awesome kit. There's a real lemon element, which I didn't manage to fit into this layout, but I'm conjuring up something to include it in...ha ha. In other words, I'm definitely using this kit again real soon. It's perfect for summer pictures, but the colors are a bit more muted, though still bright, if that makes any sense.

Next, there was a pixie dare on Enchanted Studio Scraps yesterday, which included a template. I used A+ Designs' kit Sweet Eve and did a little extracting on a photo of Melody. I love how it turned out. It was the perfect picture for the layout. I was afraid at first that Melody blended in too much with the background, but I used the outer glow feature in the layer properties, and it kind of popped the picture out without making Melody look like she was radioactivated...LOL Extracting the picture took forever, but the results were worth it, don't you think?

Next, I took another picture of Melody from the same time (we were outside playing in the backyard yesterday, and I got some great pics of the kids--I believe this added to my inspiration to scrap like mad!). I bought the kit, Berry Pickin, from A+ Designs, and joined in on the July 1-15 Pickpocket Pixie challenge. I absolutely love Berry Pickin. I'm itching to use it again right now...LOL This layout is one of my favorites. I'm definitely going to print it to frame for us and for the grandparents. Oh, and I used the luminance feature on the layer blend mode for the word art. I love how it turned out. ETA: I just realized I journaled this yesterday...LOL

The last is a layout of Sidney that I kind of scraplifted from a Pixie Spark thread on ESS. The original layout was square, probably 12x12, but I wanted a brag book page to print for myself and the grandparents. I love how this one turned out too. Again, I used Berry Pickin. You gotta get this kit...see how versatile it is!

Oh, and I'm totally into journaling big time. Expect to read lots about my kids on my layouts...ha ha

Now I'm off to enjoy some sunshine, have a snack, and clean the house! Myron won't be home until tomorrow night, but I want the place nice and picked up. Not only am I in a big scrappin' mood, but I'm also in a cleaning mood. If I didn't know better, I'd think I was nesting or something...LOL

I picked up a new kit from A+ Designs at ESS today, Berry Pickin. I knew I'd like the kit because everything Mel makes is amazing, but I found it's truly one the best kits I've worked with. I'm definitely going to make some brag book pages with it.

The layout below was created for the Pickpocket Pixie scraplift challenge at ESS. I used the Luminance Blend Mode on the word art.

Loveliness...New LO

Today I was really inspired by Cheryl's Recipe Challenge. This week her instructions include using pictures from nature or outdoors rather than pictures of people or pets. A couple weeks ago, I took Melody and Sid on a walk to the park and got a few good nature shots.

I'm so in love with this layout that I'm certain to get it printed (probably 8x8) and frame it to hang in our dining room above the computer. Or maybe even the kitchen or hallway. Not sure yet, but I'm definitely going to print it this week.

I used a collab kit called "Out and About" by Mel Hains and A Work in Progress-Designs by Vicki. One element is from Sweet Blossom Design's "Bohemia" kit.

I've had nearly 400 downloads of my mini kit for the STS blog train! I'm really excited about that. Not only is it my first kit ever, but I'm finally getting some visitors to my blog. I know with hundreds, maybe thousands, of scrapping blogs out there, it's easy for a little blog like mine to be overlooked.

That said, I've certainly been getting into designing more than I thought I would. I've finished the papers for the August blog train kit (STS, Summer Camp), and about half of the elements are done. Two of the elements are extractions from photos I've taken, and they're really unique. I'm hoping everyone will like them.

I'm also working through some ideas I have for a kit called Desert Princess. The colors are beige, red, and fuchsia.

But before I really get started on that, I'm going to make a QP or two with my Those Summer Nights kit and finish up Summer Camp.

Thank you to everyone who has left comments on my blog or on 4Shared. I really appreciate it. It's nice to know you like my kit. And I'd love to see any layouts you make so leave me a link to your LO in a gallery!

Speed Scrappin'

I'm participating in a SS at STS right now, and I've already completed Step 1 so I thought I'd pop in here on my blog.

After reading some of the help files on PSP, I found that my images might look better online if I save them in .png instead of .jpg. I'm going to try it for sure. Apparently some older browsers won't support that format, but who the heck uses an old browser anyway? Why wouldn't you upgrade? Besides, I'm sure most of the people who work with scrapbooking online can view .png just fine. If that doesn't help, I just don't know what I'll do. I'm at my wits end with it! Most previews and layouts that I see look so perfect. It frustrates me that mine look awesome on my computer, but terrible after I've uploaded it.

Enough of my whining about that, I suppose.

I'm getting very excited to release my first freebie kit this evening. After this SS, I'm going to work on some papers for next month's blog train. I'm really liking the colors. I'll post the palette later.

Before I get to news about myself, I have to announce that in just two days, on July 1st, the Stuff To Scrap July Blog Train, Those Summer Nights, will begin. I'm really excited because my blog is the first one on the list. This doesn't mean anything in particular, just that it will be easily spotted!

I plan on posting the blog roll code and link to download my Those Summer Nights mini kit Tuesday, July 30 at around 8PM PST. This will be the release of my first freebie mini kit. I hope everyone likes it! I'm hoping to complete a couple brag book pages to give away as well. It all depends on TIME, as usual.

So, this is what the BIG news for me is. I've decided to begin giving freebies away on my blog. I haven't decided on a set schedule, and there might never be a particular time-frame. My goal is to get more notice in the online scrapping world in case I decide to begin selling kits someday.

Another way to get myself noticed is to join one or two more CT teams. I've already applied with Kat's Creations, and will find out if I'm accepted on her team sometime next week. Miss Erin is also having a CT call right now. I plan on working on a layout with one of her freebie kits this evening to submit to her. If I make it in with either of those ladies, that will be enough for now. I'm still on Marcie's CT team, and that's going well, so I don't want to take on too many projects right now.

So here's a preview of my first mini kit freebie, which will be available on July 1st as part of the STS Those Summer Nights Blog Train. All the elements were either scanned in or photographed and extracted at 300dpi.

Oh, and I'm already signed up for the August Blog Train. The theme is Summer Camp, and I love the colors. I hope to come up with something really unique. I gotta get to scanning and photographing some cool elements! I'm thinking there'll be a campfire picture (realistic, which I've already extracted from a camping photo in WI July 2007). I also want a tent, some fire flies, summer flowers, and rope.

Oh, and before I go and work on my LO for Miss Erin, I want to show you my 4x6 LO I completed for the STS SS today. I loved the instructions for this SS. They really got me thinking! I'm probably going to add some journaling before I have prints made.

Marcie and the other designers at SumScrapper have a gorgeous new collab kit called Sparkle coming out on July 1st. I had a great time working with this kit for my first layout. The papers are amazing--bold colors and patterns--and many of them!

I'm going to be working on a QP (with a different LO), which will also be available on July 1st.

I Finished My First Freebie Kit!

This afternoon I finally finished my Those Summer Nights kit for the Stuff To Scrap July Blog Train. I had Melody help me look for things to scan or photograph as elements. I ended up with 6 papers and 16 elements. I believe the blog train goes live on July 1st, which is when I'll post my preview. For now, check out my first layout with the kit below. It's really different working with my own kit. I'm a bit more critical of the outcome, but regardless, I think I have the designing bug now!

On a darker note, I a bit frustrated with PSP. For some reason, when I save my layouts in jpg, they look totally crappy after I upload them. I'm trying to educate myself on the different saving options for jpg, but I guess I'm upset because I didn't have this trouble with Micrografx. So, if my layout resolution looks crappy, you know why. Oh, and it looks fine, by the way, on my computer, but looks like hell in the galleries and my blog.

ETA: Okay, so I got it to look a little better by uploading it on photobucket and then linking it on my blog. But why does it look like crap in the STS gallery? (Note: I did take it down from the gallery, but it was horrible when I had it up). What do I do?

Holy Moly--Tons of freebies this week!

I woke this morning to a digi scrappers dream. There are SO MANY freebie kits this week. I'm going to work on downloading them all for the next hour or so, and then I'll do a couple brag book pages. I also have to work on my freebie kit for the STS June blog train, Those Summer Nights, because it's due in three days! I've got the papers done, but I need to bust out those elements! I was hoping to do a campfire theme with an extraction of Myron's acoustic guitar and some real flames from our fire pit. We'll see how that goes. I'm also wanting to add a roasted marshmallow element in there. Oh and I can't forget the branches to place those marshmallows on to roast them...LOL!

Before I head over to concentrate on downloading all those goodies. I just have to mention my great experience with printing my brag book pages. I made several 4x6 pages and sent them to Walmart online's one hour photo processing. I picked them up the next day (I ordered them at night), and they turned out AWESOME. I'm so impressed with the quality of my 15 cent prints that I can't wait to make more. After I finish that freebie kit, I'm certainly going to focus on more 4x6 size LOs. Oh, and I also had a 5x7 print in there, which came out great. I'll post that LO later and tell ya all about it.

A Couple Layouts and Time Machine Effect

After visiting Virginia City, and taking some great pictures there, I'm totally inspired to scrap some vintage looking layouts. While browsing PSP's list of effects, I found the "Time Machine." With this effect, you can make your image resemble pictures taken with different techniques that were popular in the 1800's and early 1900's. I used the "Albumen" effect on the picture of Melody and the little dog. It's really a cool tool that I see myself using often.

Also, the Scrap That Idea blog has a tutorial on how to do selective coloring with Photoshop, which worked just as well with PSP. Head over to their blog to read the tut.

This layout was created for Vicki's scraplift challenge. I used Vicki's kit "Winter Warmer," which is available in her shop for $1. I loved working with this kit, and I think it goes perfectly for those vintage layouts I'm hoping to scrap. I feel a brag book coming on with this kit!

Well, I think I should have some more time this evening to work on a few more layouts. I'm hoping to get at least a dozen brag book pages done within the next week or so. I want to send them out to print and maybe work on a hybrid!

Catch Up!

My husband's mom and niece were in town visiting since last Wednesday, and they left today. You know how it is when family is in town. We had lots of fun, and stayed busy, but it's somewhat exhausting with very little quiet time other than bedtime. That said, I'm looking forward to scrapping all the great pictures we took over the past several days! My plan is to work on some brag book pages and get them printed out within the next week or two. I know Melody would love it.

Last week there were many great freebie kits, which I actually managed to download in time before they went offline and into the stores. It's going to be a hard choice on which ones to use. I may just end up mixing and matching some of them :)

Oh, and I plan on getting to work on my blog train kit. I need to finish it by the end of this week. I've got until 6/25 to complete it and post my preview in the forum at STS, but I want to have it done well beforehand in case I need to refine any of the elements. I have a few freebie CU png files (flowers and stuff). I'm mostly going to focus on making nice papers since the elements will be pretty basic. Once I get a hang of doing elements, I'm sure to make more!

Anyway, I'm actually pretty tired (and distracted) right now, and I feel like I'm babbling. Hopefully I'll be back later with a couple new layouts!

Spring Treasures Layout

Last night I bought a kit from ESS called Spring Treasures to use during the speed scrap in the forum. It's an AWESOME collab kit by A+ Designs and Chaos Lounge. I was a bit distracted while doing my layout for the SS, but overall I think it turned out okay. I'm going to use some of the layering instructions from Mel (A+ Designs) in my next layout.

I also was RAK'd by Mel during the SS, and was able to pick up her new kit Tweedle Dee as a free gift. Mel's kits truly do rock. Tweedle Dee is on sale at ESS right now. Check it out!

I also gave in to temptation and bought two other kits from the ESS $1 Fabulous Fairy Finds--Helly's Goodnight Sweetheart and Bonnie van Esch's One Fine Day. I totally can't wait to use them. I'm going to be scrapping like a maniac!

Although, Myron comes home this evening, and after not seeing him for a week, I'm certain to be spending most my time off the computer doing family things. There's always next week though. I can certainly take some new pictures to scrap over the next few days. I hope to get some great pictures of the kids and dogs to add to my LO's next week!

Oh, one last thing. I downloaded a trial version of Corel Paint Shop Pro X2. I want to buy this program SO BAD, but it's like $59 on sale $99 regular. I'm certainly going to have to save up or something. I suppose if I save $15 each week (of the money Myron gives me for the week), I'll have it in about a month...Hey...that's when my trial runs out! I can do it! Hopefully I'll find it on sale then!
